1998 Dodge Viper GTS R
1998 DODGE VIPER GT2 Champion Edition Car #82 GTSR
Viper #82 of 100 in the GT2 Champion Edition build commemorating the Viper GTS-R race cars. In order to meet FIA homologation requirements and to commemorate Viper winning the 1997 FIA GT2 class championship, 100 modified Viper GT2 Championship Edition street-legal cars were built. The Viper GTS-R 1997 FIA GT2 World Championship was the first of five between 1997 and 2002. The 1998 LeMans GT2 class win by a Viper GTS-R was the first GT class win for an American made car in 34 years since the Shelby Daytona Coupe won in 1964.
These Champion Edition GT2 cars have bodywork with similar appearance to the GTS-R, with the same color scheme and aerodynamics package to publicize the Viper's 1997 achievement of the FIA GT Championship. They were all finished in Stone White with Viper Blue Lemans stripes mimicking the look of the championship winning Oreca team GTS-R race cars. They were also fitted with lightweight 18" BBS wheels and GT2 aero package that includes an exclusive front air dam and splitter nose winglet aero plates, ground effect side sills and a tall rear wing. The interior of the GT2 is black with blue inserts. Red five point Oreca racing harnesses were installed. A numbered dash plaque to commemorate the car's number coincides with the VIN and the production numbers; only a few in Viper production to have the VIN and build production numbers match. Included with the purchase of the GT2 was a welcome letter from plant manager John Hinckley, documented photos of car in the production line including negatives and signed and numbered lithographs of the car. The cars came with a custom car cover with the production number embroidered on the front and racing memorabilia including 3 x 5 pictures of the race team drivers and team captain. Under the hood, the 8.0 Liter (488 cubic in) V-10 was fitted with a special high flow intake and twin K&N conical filters. The factory motor was rated at 460 hp and 500 ft lbs of torque.
GT2 #82 had a full race motor build-up performed by TNT Motorsports in Houston, TX. This included ported and polished heads, ported and polished manifold, custom grind Crower Cam, TNT push rods and rockers, Accufab dual polished throttle bodies, larger fuel injectors and Roe Racing carbon fiber air box with polished intake tubes and K&N Filters. Exhaust is a Billy Boat-TNT race headers and exhaust system. Differential gearing is 3:31. Ride height has been set for track use and features Moton race coil over 6 way adjustable shocks.
